When Kilauea started erupting in 1983, no one could have predicted the impact it would have on the landscape around the Big Island’s southern coast. Despite its destructive force, Kilauea attracts huge numbers of people to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park each year to see the volcano’s powerful effects for themselves.
